Curriculum Leader: Miss Skipworth

Starting Reception is an exciting milestone, and we are delighted to welcome children into the Kidgate family. Our Reception classroom is a happy, nurturing environment where children feel safe, valued and ready to learn.

Learning takes place through a balance of adult-led activities and child-initiated play. Whether building, creating, investigating or exploring outdoors, children are encouraged to develop confidence, independence and a love of learning.

Reading begins from day one through our Read Write Inc. phonics programme. Children learn letter sounds, begin blending words to read and use their growing knowledge to develop early writing skills.

Mathematics is taught through practical, hands-on experiences. Children develop their understanding of number, shape, measure and pattern through games, exploration and problem-solving activities.

Through exciting topics, stories and real-life experiences, children learn about themselves, their community and the wider world. Most importantly, Reception is a year filled with friendship, discovery and achievement as children take their first steps on their learning journey.
