Writing
Curriculum Leaders: Mrs Collingwood and Mrs Kirk
At Kidgate Academy, we recognise the vital role that discussion, collaboration and reflection play in helping children develop their authorial voice and confidence as writers. Through purposeful talk and shared writing experiences, pupils learn to express ideas clearly, adapt their style for different audiences and refine their craft. Children are immersed in vocabulary-rich, high-quality texts that broaden their understanding of language, structure and genre, inspiring them to experiment with their own writing.
We place great emphasis on the full writing process, from planning and drafting to editing, revising and publishing, enabling children to see writing as a journey of creativity and improvement. By celebrating each stage and providing meaningful opportunities to share their work with real audiences, we nurture pride, independence and resilience in our young writers. Our ultimate aim is for every child to leave Kidgate Academy equipped with the skills, confidence and imagination to communicate effectively and creatively, both verbally and in writing, throughout their lives.
