Design & Technology
Curriculum Leader: Miss Morrow
At Kidgate Academy, pupils are given the opportunity to explore Design and Technology in a way that goes beyond simply creating things. Through engaging, hands-on projects, they build technical knowledge alongside practical skills such as measuring, joining materials, cooking, problem-solving, and critical thinking.
In every DT lesson, pupils have opportunities to collaborate and work as part of a team, learning how to share ideas, solve problems, and support one another. The curriculum is designed to foster resilience and perseverance, encouraging pupils to keep going even when faced with challenges. Throughout each DT unit, regular evaluation activities allow pupils to reflect on their work, identify what went well, and think about how they can improve next time. This process helps them gain confidence in their abilities and teaches the value of learning from both successes and setbacks.
Whether pupils are designing innovative creations, cooking a tasty meal, or tackling a tricky problem, the skills they develop in Design and Technology at Kidgate Academy will empower them to become creative, determined, and resourceful individuals ready to take on future challenges.
