Year 4

Welcome to Year 4!

We are excited to share what our Year 4 children will be learning this year as they continue to grow in confidence, independence and resilience while tackling more challenging learning.

In English, the children will develop their skills in reading fluency and comprehension, exploring a wide range of texts to deepen their vocabulary and understanding. They will also work on writing longer pieces with greater accuracy, creativity and organisation, using grammar and punctuation with increasing confidence. In maths, they will extend their knowledge of number and place value, practise efficient methods for the four operations, and explore concepts such as fractions, decimals and measurement. They will also develop their reasoning and problem-solving skills across a range of contexts. Across the wider curriculum, the children will investigate fascinating topics in science, history and geography, which will help them to understand the world and make connections in their learning. They will also be encouraged to express themselves through art, music and drama, where they can develop creativity and imagination.

In physical education, pupils will build stamina, coordination and teamwork through a variety of games, skills and activities. Through PSHE, they will explore themes such as wellbeing, friendships, online safety and personal responsibility, helping them to grow as kind and thoughtful members of the school community.

We can’t wait to see each child grow and succeed in Year 4, and we are delighted to be part of their learning journey.
