Year 2

Welcome to Year 2!

We are really excited to share what our children will be learning this year. In English, the children will continue to develop their phonics, reading fluency and comprehension skills, applying them first to picture books before developing them across short chapter books. In writing, the children will continue to develop their range of conjunctions and sentence openers. In Maths, children will learn to understand the place value of numbers to 100. They will add and subtract using a variety of different mental strategies. Geography will cover topics such as oceans and seas, the hottest and coldest parts of the world, coasts, world landmarks and what makes our local area special.

In History, topics will include the history of flight, differences between the Victorian times and the present day and monarchs. Science will cover topics such as habitats, microhabitats, materials, plants, and animals including humans. Our PSHE curriculum using The Story Project will help children to understand how to better manage their emotions, cope when they make mistakes and deal with loss. We are looking forward to sharing our learning journey this year.
