Year 1

Welcome to Year 1!

We are really excited to share what our Year 1 children will be learning this year. This is such an important stage in their education, as they begin to build more confidence, independence and curiosity in their learning.

In English, the children will continue to develop their phonics, build fluency in reading, develop their letter formation and start writing simple sentences and stories. In maths, they will work on number facts within 50, addition and subtraction up to 20, and also explore shapes, patterns and measures in fun and practical ways. Across the wider curriculum, they will learn about the world around them through science, history and geography, and also enjoy being creative through art, music and drama, where they can explore and express their ideas. Physical education will give children the chance to develop their balance, coordination and teamwork skills. Through PSHE, they will learn more about friendships, feelings and how to take care of themselves and others.

We are looking forward to seeing all of the children thrive in Year 1, and we are excited to share this wonderful learning journey with them.
