OPAL Play

The OPAL (Outdoor Play And Learning) programme is designed to enhance socialisation, physical activity, resilience, cooperation, coordination, creativity, and enjoyment. We are embedding the OPAL approach throughout all our play areas, particularly during lunch and break times, ensuring that play is purposeful and enriching for every pupil.

Our playground is a unique, integrated space where children from Reception through to Year 6 can play together freely. This inclusive design allows siblings and friends from different year groups to connect and form new friendships, fostering a strong community spirit. Pupils have the freedom to explore every corner of the playground and access a wide variety of equipment, promoting imaginative and varied play experiences. Feedback from pupils has been overwhelmingly positive, with many expressing how much they enjoy the freedom and opportunities the playground offers.

This approach not only supports physical well-being but also helps build resilience and social skills, directly linking to our vision of growing kind hearts and curious minds. By encouraging pupils to take safe risks, collaborate, and respect one another, we are helping them develop essential life skills that will serve them well beyond their time at Kidgate Academy.

We invite parents and members of our community to share in this exciting development and support our mission to provide a rich, engaging learning environment that champions every child’s growth and happiness. Together, we are building a school where play is not just fun—it’s fundamental to learning and personal development.
